TriPOS/Verifone Questions

Here's a series of questions a reseller recently asked me:

I’m using triPOS with a Verifone VX805. I’d like to use the mag-stripe reader on the Verifone device to capture swipes of things like loyalty cards & gift cards, and receive those, unencrypted, at the POS rather than sending them on to the processor as a normal EMV transaction would.

The questions I have are:

1. Can the Verifone VX805 support this?
2. Can triPOS support this?
3. Does the PCI PTS allow this?

Great question! 

1. Can the Verifone VX805 support this? – yes, via bin ranges.
2. Can triPOS support this? – yes, via bin ranges and whitelisting.  We still recommend encrypting the cards and allowing our gateway unencrypt and sent to the processor.
3. Does the PCI PTS allow this? – it does. Gift and loyalty fall outside the standard as long as it is closed loop gift. Open loop (ie Visa/MC branded prepaid) would still fall under PCI.
